At Sunnyside Trading, a local antique store specializing in southeast asian furniture, I frequently find old doors that, while beautiful and unique, often don’t fit modern doorways. Using complimentary lumber, I carefully frame these undersized, intricately carved doors to fit contemporary spaces, allowing for modern hinges and hardware. This process preserves their charm while making them functional for today’s homes.

Each piece represents an opportunity to refine the wedging of tenons, ensuring maximum strength and stability. The saying, “the harder you sit, the better the fit,” perfectly encapsulates the enduring quality of these joints. This collection showcases the beauty and practicality of this technique, highlighting the journey of mastering subtle and essential tools in woodworking.
