Kitchen Boards: Crafted for Function and Beauty

In my shop, I craft two distinct types of kitchen boards: cutting boards and serving trays. Cutting boards are designed for everyday use with a knife, while serving trays offer a refined platform for displaying prepared foods.

When it comes to cutting boards, I offer two styles: edge grain and end grain. Edge grain boards are made by laminating wood strips with the edges as the cutting surface. These boards are quicker to make and more cost-effective, with the added benefit of easily being made larger. On the other hand, end grain boards, which use the ends of the wood as the cutting surface, are tougher and better suited for heavy chopping, though they take longer to create and require more material.

Personally, I’ve used an edge grain board daily for over ten years, and it has held up beautifully. For cutting boards, I prefer maple due to its closed, dense grain that resists splintering and cleans up easily. While I do work with other wood species, I tend to reserve those for serving trays, which don’t need to endure the same wear and tear as a cutting board.

Every board is a balance of form and function, designed to enhance your kitchen and your experience in it.
